CHELSEA v LIVERPOOL
Head-to-head record (in European competition)
Played: 9
Wins: Chelsea 3, Liverpool 2, Draws 4
Goals: Chelsea 8, Liverpool 6

Previous appearances in last four:
Champions League - Chelsea 4, Liverpool 3
European Cup - Liverpool 9, Chelsea 4

Important Facts:
* Chelsea, aiming to reach their fifth CL semi-final in six
years, have good reason for optimism. They have won their last
seven CL home games and are unbeaten in 16. They have never
conceded three goals at home in 72 European games.

* Chelsea have lost only two of 14 European games against
other English clubs. Both of those defeats were away to
Liverpool, each time with a 1-0 scoreline.

* Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has scored in each of his
last four CL games and has an overall record bettering one goal
in every two matches. He has netted 27 times in 52 appearances
for Chelsea and Olympique Marseille.

* Liverpool, who must score at least three goals, have done
so in six of their last 28 CL away games.

* Liverpool have failed to score in eight of 17 previous
European games against fellow-English clubs and have scored only
13 times in those games.

* It will be Liverpool's 10th CL game against Chelsea in
five seasons. Only Jamie Carragher and Steven Gerrard have
appeared for Liverpool in the nine played so far. Chelsea have
three ever-presents, Petr Cech, Didier Drogba and John Terry -
though Terry will miss the 10th through suspension.

BAYERN MUNICH v BARCELONA
Head-to-head record in Europe
Played: 5
Wins: Bayern Munich 3, Barcelona 1, Draws 1
Goals: Barcelona 8, Bayern Munich 7

Previous appearances in last four:
Champions League - Barcelona 5, Bayern Munich 4
European Cup - Bayern Munich 12, Barcelona 10

* It is unlikely that Bayern could bounce back after losing
the first leg 4-0 though they have scored four goals or more in
seven of their last 25 European home games, including the 7-1
drubbing of Sporting in the last round.

* No team has ever overturned a 4-0 first leg deficit in
European club competition though three sides have come back from
losing by four goals. The last was Real Madrid who lost 5-1 to
Borussia Moenchengladbach in the third round of the 1985-86 UEFA
Cup before winning 4-0 in Madrid to go through on the away goal.
They went on to win the trophy. In the previous season's
competition Partizan Belgrade eliminated Queen's Park Rangers
after losing the first leg 6-2 by winning 4-0 at home. Leixoes
beat Swiss club La Chaux de Fonds in the 1961-62 Cup Winners
Cup, winning 5-0 after losing 6-2 in the away leg.

* Bayern's top scorer this season, Miroslav Klose, netted
seven goals in six CL games before injury ruled him out of the
Barcelona games.

* Barcelona have won eight of their last 12 CL away games
and lost only one. They have never lost a CL away game by four
goals but they do have two 4-0 defeats on their record - to AC
Milan in the 1994 final in Athens and to Dynamo Kiev at home in
1997-98.

* Barcelona striker Thierry Henry, who become only the third
player to reach 50 CL goals when he scored against Bayern in the
first leg, needs one more goal to become only the fifth player
to score 60 goals in the three main European competitions - the
European Cup/Champions League, Cup Winners Cup and UEFA
Cup/Fairs Cup.

* Barcelona winger Lionel Messi has scored 14 goals in his
last 17 CL matches and leads the scorers' chart this season with
eight goals in eight games.
