The Telegraph offers the logic and justification behind this decision:

"Turf Moor manager Owen Coyle threw his weight behind the club’s low-risk policy by revealing that ‘I took five pay cuts during my career to just to play football."

And if a guy who got a single international cap for Ireland was willing to do it, surely the pampered Premier League caliber stars would be willing to follow suit, right?

"Coyle also quite rightly pointed out that, although Burnley’s top wage next season will place the club rock-bottom of the Premier League’s pay league, the sums that they will pay are still huge in comparison to the wage packet of their average supporter."

Well by that rationale, let’s pay doctors less, too. I’m sure those greedy bastards make far more than their average patients. Or even school teachers! No way 10-year-olds can compete with their wages. They can barely even read! Haha this apples vs. oranges business is fun, isn’t it?
