It was a sublime performence by the home side in their first Premier League match of the season, Barton scored one hell of a goal in the first half, but just before that Aston Villa has a wonderfull chance of getting the lead when they were awarded a penalty and John Carew blasted over the bar. But Barton's stunning goal opened the flood gate as Villa could not cope with the arial powers of Carrol. who scored either side of the half time to make it 4-0 while Nolan was among the goals as well.
