This is a match for which I would like to start with historic animosity and dont be fooled by the comments of the Iraqi coach when he said that it is not a war its just another football game and his team will do the busniess as usual. Although second part of the comment is worth repeating. right ?
Anyway when we get into the preview we have to mention that these two nations are arch rivals and talk of sport being used as help build bridges between two nations it wont be like that.
First time when both teams met was back in 1972 in Thialan Asian Cup and it was Iran who won the match by 2-0. Their next meeting came 20 years later in the UAE, with Iraq coming out as 2-1 winners. after that In the 2000 Asian Cup which was held in Lebanon Iran won it by 1-0.
So it will be interesting to see how both teams go about in this one. You can watch the live action of this match here, While full match highlights will be placed here shorlty before it all starts.

You're an idiot. Who are you talk on behalf of these great two nations like you know what you're saying? Iraqis and Iranians have always loved each other.
They never fought wars against each other except for the recent imposed war where Saddam killed any soldier's family if they didn't participate. Why do you think so many Iraqis escaped Iraq during the period?
If the nations hated each other so much Saddam wouldn't need to do that. You need to talk some Iraqis and Iranians before you make stuff up.
Most of the Shi'a Iraqi soldiers avoided confrontation during the war and did little damage when they had to. Also this was was not fought between Iraq and Iran. It was the entire world vs Iran and Iran won. The US and the West supplied Saddam with all types of illegal weapons and the Arab gulf countries paid for them. Still that didn't shake the Islamic Revolution.
At any time during the year there are hundreds of thousands of Iranians in Iraq and vice versa.
Okay mate, sorry for that.
I was jsut trying to spice up the match preview. So good to know that you people love each other
Just for the record, Iran had three times the population and the much better economy at the time and actually had serious leaders incharge compared to saddam spending his time building palace after palace during the war. On top of that the Iraqi Shi'a who are the majority were all holding back as you said. Also none of the Iraqis had any good reason to fight were as the Iranis had the whole islamic revolution thing.
After all that, Iran couldnt do anything in 8 years and no they didnt win, realistically it was a draw but politically and statistically Iraq won and they accordingly declared the victory which Iran didnt challenge.
Now Im all up for being unbiased like you but dont use that to protect yourself for sneaky, incorrect comments like 'It was the entire world vs Iran and Iran won', you had plenty of support too so dont get me started on that!!! Anyway hope it made you feel good about yourself man...
